The Australian Music Education Board (AMEB) provides exams for students who wish to gain recognition for their efforts learning an instrument. One of the fields that students can study is Contemporary Popular Music (CPM). This consists of a four level syllabus that, if successfully completed, will deliver an academically recognised qualification. Students in years 10 and above gain credits towards their OP score. Instruments included in this syllabus include the electric guitar and bass. I have worked with many students who selected this path and they have found it both challenging and rewarding.
